Botz 9605 Rot gepunktet liquid glaze – glossy rose red with black specks

Botz 9605 Rot gepunktet liquid glaze is a glossy, opaque glaze for bisque-fired ceramics: a rose-red base colour with black specks. On vessels the specks flow during firing, creating a lively, speckled surface.

The glaze is stable within a firing range of 1020 to 1060 °C and belongs to the Botz earthenware range. You apply it with a brush, without mixing it beforehand.

Applying the glaze

The glaze is suitable for ceramics that have previously been bisque-fired at 950 °C or above. The specks are meant to develop during firing, so apply the glaze thickly.

• Stir the glaze well so that the specks are evenly distributed
• Thin with a little water if required
• Apply to the bisque-fired ceramic with a brush
• Leave to dry thoroughly and repeat if required
• Fire at 1020–1060 °C

Flow of the specks

Because the black specks flow on vessels, the pattern runs downwards on vertical surfaces. For this reason, leave a narrow strip at the foot of the piece unglazed so that nothing sticks to the kiln shelf. A test piece made from your own clay will show how far the specks run and how the colour looks on your clay body. This is particularly worthwhile for cups, bowls and vases with a high rim.
