Botz liquid glaze 9528 Mandelblüte – satin pink with flowing specks

Botz liquid glaze 9528 Mandelblüte is an opaque, satin glaze for earthenware in a strong pink. Flowing specks that shift from grey to blue lie across the coloured surface. This gives bowls, plates, lidded boxes or figures a lively, speckled finish without your having to combine several glazes.

The glaze is designed for the firing range 1020–1060 °C and is stable at low-fire temperatures. It therefore suits ceramics fired in this temperature range, not stoneware firings at higher temperatures.

Application

Apply the glaze to bisque-fired ceramics. The bisque firing should be at 950 °C minimum so that the clay body takes up the glaze well. Then proceed as follows:

• Stir the glaze well so that the colour particles and specks are evenly distributed.
• If needed, thin with a little water.
• Apply to the piece with a brush and leave to dry thoroughly.
• If needed, apply another coat and let it dry again before firing.
• Fire in the range 1020–1060 °C.

Tips for a good result

Specks and colour tone can turn out slightly different depending on the clay and the thickness of application. A test piece made from your own clay will show you beforehand how Mandelblüte turns out for you. Leave the foot ring free of glaze so that the piece does not stick to the kiln shelf. This makes sense with any glaze.
