Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-18 Rosey Posey – ceramic glaze for details and larger areas

Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-18 Rosey Posey is a pink ceramic glaze for wet clay and for bisque-fired earthenware or stoneware. It fires glossy, so you do not need an additional clear glaze. The colours in the series stay put next to each other without running, so you can paint fine lines, details and multicoloured designs cleanly side by side.

You control the coverage through the number of coats: one coat fires translucent, and with 2–3 coats the glaze becomes opaque. The colours in the series can be mixed with one another. Thinned with water, they give transparent and watercolour effects.

Firing and colour effect

Mayco has formulated the series for cone 06/05 (cone 06 approx. 998 °C, cone 05 approx. 1031 °C, in each case a guide value per Orton chart). It can be fired from cone 06 to cone 10, in oxidation or reduction. With Rosey Posey the colour changes noticeably at high fire: at cone 6 (approx. 1222 °C, guide value per Orton chart) in oxidation it fires transparent and fades towards SC-17 Cheeky Pinky. For the strong pink, fire in the cone 06/05 range. If you want to use the glaze at high fire, make a test piece on your own clay first.

How to apply the glaze

Stir the glaze well before applying it to bring the settled particles back into suspension. Apply each coat evenly and let it dry before the next. For lines and details, place the colours next to each other; according to Mayco, they do not run into one another. With the majolica technique, the glaze does not mix with the colours underneath. For delicate shades, thin with water.

According to Mayco, the glaze is dinnerware safe. According to ACMI, the AP seal means that the product is non-hazardous (no labelling required).
