Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-70 Pink-A-Dot – glossy pink glaze for wet clay, bisque and stoneware
Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-70 Pink-A-Dot is a glossy pink ceramic glaze for painting onto wet clay, bisque and stoneware. Mayco gives wet clay, earthenware bisque firing and stoneware bisque firing as its applications. You can fire the glaze in oxidation and in reduction. It fires glossy and needs no clear glaze to do so.
The glaze suits details, lines and multicoloured designs. All colours in the range can be mixed with one another, so you can tint Pink-A-Dot with other Stroke & Coat colours. After firing, the glaze is dinnerware safe according to Mayco. The AP seal means, according to ACMI: non-hazardous (no labelling required).
Applying Pink-A-Dot
One coat gives a translucent result, and opacity increases with each further coat. Mayco recommends 2–3 coats. Let each coat dry before applying the next so that it does not dissolve. If you thin the glaze, you get softer gradients and transparent effects.
- 1 coat: translucent
- 2–3 coats: opaque
- Glossy surface without an additional clear glaze
Firing and high firing
The glaze is formulated for maturing at cone 06/05, that is cone 06 (approx. 998 °C, guide value per Orton chart) or cone 05 (approx. 1031 °C, guide value per Orton chart). You can fire it up to cone 10 (approx. 1285 °C, guide value per Orton chart), including cone 6 (approx. 1222 °C, guide value per Orton chart). With Pink-A-Dot, however, the result changes markedly at high temperatures: according to Mayco, the colour looks semi-transparent at cone 6 and fades strongly. Designs may also run at mid or high fire. Mayco therefore advises testing with your own clay and your own kiln. To keep the strong pink shade, fire in the cone 06/05 range.
