Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-002 Melon-Choly – opaque glaze with a glossy finish
Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-002 Melon-Choly is a glossy ceramic glaze in a shade between orange, pink and red. You can apply it to damp clay (greenware), bisque or stoneware. According to Mayco, the glaze stays exactly where you put it. This makes fine details, clean lines and multicoloured designs possible without running.
The colour can be mixed with the other colours in the range. If you thin it, you get softer gradients and transparent effects.
Application and coverage
Stir the glaze well before applying it. The number of coats determines the result: one coat looks slightly transparent, while two to three coats give full coverage. Let each coat dry before applying the next so that the brush does not dissolve the layer underneath. For transparent washes and soft transitions, thin the glaze. You can also mix it with other Stroke & Coat colours.
Firing
The normal firing range is cone 06 (approx. 998 °C, guide value per Orton chart). The glaze is also suitable for high firing on stoneware and can be used in oxidation and reduction firing. Firing gives a glossy finish, and you do not need an additional clear glaze. As clay and firing schedule affect the colour, a test piece beforehand shows you how Melon-Choly looks in your own setup.
For dinnerware
According to Mayco, the glaze is dinnerware safe. According to ACMI, the AP (Approved Product) seal of the ACMI stands for products without hazard labelling.
