Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-008 Just Froggy – opaque glaze with a glossy finish
Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-008 Just Froggy is a glossy ceramic glaze for bisque-fired ware, greenware and stoneware. It stays where you put it when applied. This allows fine details, clean lines and multicoloured designs without the colours running into one another.
You control the coverage through the number of coats: one coat looks slightly transparent, while 2 to 3 coats give full coverage. Firing produces a glossy surface, and you do not need an additional clear glaze for this. According to Mayco, the glaze is dinnerware safe. According to ACMI, the AP seal (Approved Product) means: no hazard labelling.
Applying the glaze
Stir the glaze well before use and apply it evenly with a soft brush. Let each coat dry before applying the next, otherwise the brush will drag the coat underneath. For washes and soft gradients, you can thin the glaze. All colours in the range can be mixed with one another, so you can create your own in-between shades. Do not apply too thickly and leave the foot of the piece unglazed so that nothing runs onto the kiln shelf.
Firing and choosing from the range
The normal firing range is cone 06 (approx. 998 °C, guide value per Orton chart). The glaze can be used in oxidation and reduction firing and can also be used on stoneware in high firing. With 236 ml, you have enough for larger areas or several pieces. If you would like to try several colours from the range first, the range also includes sampler sets with 12 × 59 ml.
