Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-089 Cutie Pie Coral – brush-on glaze for strokes and solid coverage
Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-089 Cutie Pie Coral (SC-89 at Mayco) is a highly pigmented, thick ceramic glaze for brush strokes or opaque coverage on damp clay and bisque-fired ware. It fires glossy, so you do not need a clear glaze over it. The bottle contains 236 ml.
According to Mayco, colours stay separate side by side without running. This helps with lines, patterns and multicoloured designs. According to Mayco, the glaze is suitable for dinnerware (Dinnerware Safe). The ACMI AP seal (Approved Product) means: non-hazardous, with no hazard labelling required.
Applying Stroke & Coat
Stir the glaze well before applying. One coat gives a slightly translucent result, and further coats increase the coverage. Mayco recommends 2–3 coats for full coverage. Let each coat dry before applying the next. If you thin the glaze with water, you get a wash or watercolour effect with soft transitions. All Stroke & Coat colours can be mixed with each other, so you can create your own shades.
Firing and colour result
Stroke & Coat is designed to mature at cone 06/05, that is cone 06 (approx. 998 °C, guide value per Orton chart) to cone 05 (approx. 1031 °C, guide value per Orton chart). You can fire it in oxidation. If you use the glaze on stoneware at high fire, do a test first: Mayco points out that dark shades such as red or orange can turn darker at high fire. At cone 6 (approx. 1222 °C, guide value per Orton chart) in oxidation, Cutie Pie Coral is semi-transparent according to Mayco, with no colour change. For opaque coverage, therefore, plan on several coats.
