Prym Knooking Needle 4.0 mm – crochet and knitting in one technique

The Prym Knooking Needle ALU in 4.0 mm is a tool for knooking, the technique that combines crochet and knitting. The red aluminium needle is 16.5 cm long and has a hook at the front like a crochet hook. At the back there is an elongated eye section through which you thread a cord.

You form the stitches with the hook, as in crochet. They do not stay loose but sit on the threaded cord while you work. This produces stitch patterns that look like knitting but are worked with a crochet hook.

Working with the knooking needle

Thread a cord through the eye and crochet the stitches with the hook as usual. The finished stitches slide onto the cord. After each row, pull the cord through, turn your work and continue on the other side. Aluminium is light, and at around 10 g the needle is easy to handle.

Choosing the size

The size 4.0 mm is the needle diameter. The thicker the needle, the looser the stitches. The range is also available in 6.0 mm. It is best to try out new techniques on a small tension swatch.
