When you need a closed-end zip
Closed-end means that the two halves are firmly joined at the bottom and cannot be separated completely. This suits openings that you only open to put something on or to fill it, such as side seams of skirts, dresses and trousers, bags or cushion covers. For jackets that need to open fully, you need an open-ended zip instead.
Choosing the length and sewing it in
The length is usually given in your sewing pattern; otherwise measure the opening and compare it with the 18 cm. The series is available in other lengths. Pin or tack the zip in place before sewing so that nothing slips. Use the zip foot to sew close along the coil. The flexible polyester coil also makes this easier on curves such as hip or pocket areas.
