YKK 20 cm zip – closed-end

The YKK CFC-36 coil zip is 20 cm long and closed-end, so it stays closed at the bottom. The fine polyester coil is light and flexible and follows soft fabrics well.

You can sew it into skirts, dresses and trousers, set it into side seams or use it for bags and cushion covers. For jackets and anything that needs to open fully at the bottom, you need an open-ended zip instead.

Sewing in and shortening

Pin or tack the zip in place before sewing and stitch it in with the zip foot of your sewing machine. When you reach the slider, leave the needle in the fabric, raise the presser foot and slide the pull behind the needle. If the zip is slightly too long, you can shorten a coil zip at the bottom end: sew across the coil several times at the desired point and cut off below it.
