Prym magnetic snap fastener 19 mm – closure for bags and pouches

The Prym magnetic snap fastener in antique brass closes your handmade bags, pouches, rucksacks or purses. The polished metal fastener has a diameter of 19 mm and consists of two parts that attract each other through the magnet. This means it closes and opens without much effort.

Each part is fixed with small prongs that you bend outwards with pliers. So you need no stitching or rivets, just a little preparation of the fabric.

Fitting the fastener

Mark the position of both parts on the bag fabric and cut small slits in the fabric for the prongs. Push the prongs through the fabric from the front and bend them outwards on the back with pliers. With thin or soft fabrics, you can include a piece of interfacing or wadding on the back so that the fabric does not tear from the strain when opening. Make sure both parts sit directly opposite each other and are centred, so that the magnet closes cleanly.
