Prym hem gauge – marking hems, angles and buttonholes accurately

The Prym hem gauge (art. no. 610732) is a sewing gauge made of flexible, transparent plastic. You can use it to mark hems, angles and buttonholes, even right at the sewing machine.

The graduated notches from 1 cm to 3.5 cm cover the most common hem widths. A 45° and a 90° angle marking help you with mitred corners and with marking buttonholes on shirts and blouses. At just 10.5 × 4 cm, the hem gauge is small enough to keep close to hand beside the machine.

Using the hem gauge

Choose the notch that matches your hem width, place the gauge against the edge of the fabric and mark at the notch. If you repeat this at short intervals along the edge, you get an even hem line, whatever the thickness of the fabric. Because the plastic is transparent, you can see the fabric underneath and line up patterns or edges exactly. For corners, place the 45° or 90° marking against the edge of the fabric. For buttonholes, use the gauge to transfer the spacing onto the shirt or blouse.
