Gütermann Repellent Sew-All Thread Col. 1 – water-repellent thread for outdoor wear and rainwear

Gütermann Repellent Sew-All Thread Col. 1 is a water-repellent all-purpose sewing thread made from 100 % polyester, for outdoor jackets, rainwear and bags. The set contains 4 reels of 100 m, 400 m in total, in colour assortment Col. 1. According to Gütermann, the thread is suitable for water-repellent joining and topstitching seams.

It is made using Micro Core Technology®. You can use it as needle thread and bobbin thread, on the sewing machine or by hand, without any special machine settings. That saves you fiddling with the thread tension when you switch from normal sewing thread to this thread partway through a project.

What the thread is used for

Gütermann lists rain jackets, trench coats, outdoor clothing, rain hats, bags, make-up bags and dog coats as uses. Wherever fabrics are meant to repel water, a thread with the same property is a better match than ordinary sewing thread. Please note: even with a water-repellent thread, the needle holes remain in the fabric. A water-repellent fabric does not automatically become watertight through the seam.

Sewing with it

Thread the reel as both needle thread and bobbin thread. For fine, closely woven fabrics, use a fine universal or Microtex needle; Gütermann gives NM 70 as the finest suitable size. Sew a test seam on an offcut of your fabric first, so you can see whether the stitch and seam appearance work.

Which set is right for you?

The sets of 4 reels of 100 m each come in three colour assortments (Col. 1 to 3). This set is Col. 1. For larger projects or lots of seams, there is also a set of 10 reels of 100 m (1,000 m).
