Botz 9361 Buttergelb Liquid Glaze – Opaque, Glossy Pastel Yellow Glaze

Botz 9361 Buttergelb liquid glaze is an opaque, glossy pastel yellow glaze for bisque-fired ceramics. It gives good coverage and is applied with a brush.

According to Botz, it gives very good results even on coloured clays. It melts well and does not tend to run, even at 1100 °C. This is useful if you want to fire at the upper end of the firing range and keep your piece and the kiln shelf clean. The glaze is also suitable for raku.

Application

Buttergelb is opaque, so the colour also shows on darker clay bodies. A test piece on your own clay will show you beforehand how the yellow turns out.

• Stir the glaze well, as the pigments settle at the bottom
• If needed, thin with a little water
• Apply with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics (bisque firing at 950 °C minimum)
• Leave to dry well and apply a further coat if needed

Firing and choice of colour

The glaze is stable in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C. You can fire it up to 1100 °C. This makes it suitable for earthenware and for raku firing. If you are looking for a different colour effect, the Botz liquid glaze series includes other shades such as Babyrosa, Nussbraun or Muscheltürkis. They belong to the same series, but have their own colours and properties.
