Botz 9525 Blütenwiese liquid glaze – mid-blue effect glaze for earthenware
Botz 9525 Blütenwiese liquid glaze is an opaque, satin effect glaze for earthenware in a mid-blue with slightly grey-green tones. With a thick application and a higher firing temperature, the grey-green tones become stronger and the surface looks livelier, from textured to speckled. If you want a calmer blue, apply it more thinly and fire at the lower end of the range.
The glaze is stable in the firing range of 1020 to 1060 °C and can be fired up to 1100 °C according to Botz. You can therefore use it in a low-fire kiln for earthenware and control the effect through temperature and layer thickness.
Application
The glaze goes on bisque-fired ceramics that were bisque-fired at 950 °C or above. Remove dust with a damp sponge before glazing.
- Stir the glaze well so that the settled particles are mixed back in.
- If necessary, thin with a little water.
- Apply with a brush and leave to dry thoroughly.
- If necessary, apply another coat, let it dry again and then fire.
Firing and effect
The glaze is stable in the firing range of 1020 to 1060 °C. If you fire higher, up to a maximum of 1100 °C, and apply it thickly, the grey-green tones come out more strongly. A test piece on your own clay body shows you beforehand what effect you will get with your kiln and your layer thickness. Avoid thick layers near the foot of the piece so that nothing runs onto the kiln shelf.
