Botz Unidekor 4042 Orange – glossy decorating colour for underglaze, overglaze and in-glaze

Botz Unidekor 4042 Orange is a liquid universal decorating colour in an opaque, glossy orange for ceramics and porcelain. You can use it for underglaze, overglaze and in-glaze techniques, as well as for porcelain painting, majolica technique and relief work. The firing range is 1000–1250 °C. This means you can fire the colour together with stoneware, earthenware or porcelain, as long as the material is suitable for that temperature.

The Unidekor colours from Botz can be mixed with one another. For pastel shades, mix Orange with Botz 4009 White: the more white you add, the lighter the shade. Undiluted, the colour can also be applied with an airbrush. The 30 ml is enough for individual projects or for trying out the colour.

Working with Unidekor

The technique you choose determines how you build up the decoration. Apply the colour with a brush. Undiluted, it is also suitable for an airbrush.

• Underglaze: apply the decoration, leave to dry and cover with a thin coat of Botz 9106 glaze.
• Overglaze and porcelain painting: paint onto a glazed clay body and fire.
• In-glaze ("glaze+paint"): apply the colour to the unfired glaze. For this, Botz recommends particularly matt glazes, e.g. 9108, 9107, 9487–9491 and 9612.
• Marbling: possible when diluted on a dampened or glaze-fired, i.e. glazed and fired, clay body.

Mixing colours and planning the firing

All Unidekor colours can be mixed with one another. With 4009 White you get pastel shades, and with other Unidekor colours your own nuances. Mix enough for your whole project and note down the mixing ratio, as it is rarely possible to match a shade exactly without notes. You have some leeway with the firing temperature: the firing range runs from 1000 to 1250 °C. Base your choice on the clay or glaze you are combining the colour with.
