Botz Unidekor 4006 Türkis – opaque decorating colour for ceramics and porcelain

Botz UNIDEKOR 4006 Türkis is a liquid, opaque universal decorating colour in a glossy light blue/turquoise for painting ceramics and porcelain. You can use it for underglaze and overglaze techniques, porcelain painting, majolica and relief work. The wide firing range of 1000–1250 °C gives you room to choose how you fire.

All Botz Unidekor colours can be mixed with one another, so you can create your own shades. Mixed with 4009 Weiß, they give light pastel tones. Undiluted, the colour is also suitable for airbrush. According to Botz, Unidekor is exempt from hazard labelling: lead-free and free of hazardous substances in concentrations requiring labelling. The colour is made in Germany.

Working with Unidekor

Apply the colour to bisque-fired ceramics. Once dry, you can also cover it with a clear glaze using a soft brush. The firing schedule differs depending on the technique:

• Underglaze: paint on bisque-fired ceramics, apply a thin coat of clear glaze and fire at 1050 °C.
• Porcelain: do not apply too thinly and fire at 1200 °C or above, or cover with clear glaze and fire at approx. 1080 °C.
• Stoneware: above 1220 °C, Unidekor colours become very intense, except 4003, 4005 and 4015.
• In-glaze: apply to the dry, suitable glaze. Before firing the colour looks matt and less vivid; it only shows its full intensity after firing.

Choosing and mixing the colour

4006 Türkis is an opaque shade and suits clean, solid-colour areas as well as decorations and lines. If you would like it lighter, mix in a little 4009 Weiß to obtain pastel tones. As the result depends on the clay body, the thickness of application and the firing temperature, a test piece on your own clay body will show you beforehand how the shade fires in your case.
