Botz Unidekor 4017 Sonnengelb – opaque decorating colour for underglaze, overglaze and in-glaze
Botz Unidekor 4017 Sonnengelb is a liquid, opaque universal decorating colour in glossy yellow for decorating ceramics and porcelain. According to Botz, you can use the Unidekor colours as underglaze, overglaze and in-glaze colours. The firing range is 1000–1250 °C, and according to Botz the colours stay glossy and stable throughout the whole range (information on the Unidekor series).
The colour suits underglaze technique, porcelain painting, majolica technique and relief technique. It can be mixed with the other Unidekor colours, and mixing it with 4009 White gives light pastel shades, for example a soft yellow.
Using Unidekor
Apply the colour to the clay body with a brush. Which technique suits depends on what you want to achieve:
- Underglaze technique: let the decoration dry and glaze over it thinly with Botz 9106. Apply the glaze with a soft brush so the decoration does not smudge.
- In-glaze technique (glaze+paint): paint onto the unfired glaze. For this, Botz names particularly matt glazes, e.g. series 9108, 9107, 9487–9491 and 9612.
- Marbling: thinned, the colour can be marbled on a dampened or glaze-fired surface, i.e. a glazed and fired clay body.
- Airbrush: undiluted, the colour is suitable for airbrush.
Mixing and colour effect
The Unidekor colours can be mixed with each other. If you lighten Sonnengelb with White 4009, you get pastel shades. Make a test piece first with your own clay body and your own firing so you know how the yellow looks for you. Note down the quantities and the mixing ratio for later reorders, as a shade is hard to match exactly.
