Botz Unidekor 4002 Kobaltblau – opaque decorating colour for underglaze, onglaze and porcelain

Botz Unidekor 4002 Kobaltblau is a liquid, opaque universal decorating colour in a strong deep blue for ceramics and porcelain. You can use it for underglaze and onglaze techniques, porcelain painting, majolica technique and relief work. The firing range is 1000–1250 °C. The 30 ml pot is handy for testing or for individual projects.

All 24 Unidekor colours from Botz can be mixed with one another. For pastel shades, mix Kobaltblau with Botz 4009 Weiß. Undiluted, the colour can also be used for airbrush work. According to Botz, Unidekor is exempt from hazard labelling: lead-free and free of hazardous substances in concentrations requiring labelling.

Working with Unidekor

The firing differs depending on the technique and the surface. Once dry, you can cover the painted area with a clear glaze, which gives the colours extra gloss.

• Underglaze: paint on bisque-fired ceramics, apply a thin coat of clear glaze over the top and fire at 1050 °C.
• Porcelain: do not apply too thinly and fire at 1200 °C at least, or cover with clear glaze and fire at approx. 1080 °C.
• Stoneware: above 1220 °C the colour becomes very intense.
• In-glaze (glaze+paint): apply to dry Botz glaze; glaze 9102 is not suitable. Before firing, the colour looks matt and less vivid; it only reaches its full intensity after firing.

Which Unidekor colour to choose

Kobaltblau 4002 is the strong deep blue of the series. If you prefer a blue with a violet tinge, take a look at Pflaumenblau 4014; for a greenish blue, Türkis 4006. To lighten Kobaltblau, mix in Botz 4009 Weiß. A test piece on your own clay body shows you, before the actual project, how intense the colour will be at your firing temperature.
