Botz Unidekor 4010 Palisander – opaque brown underglaze colour for ceramics and porcelain

Botz Unidekor 4010 Palisander is a liquid, opaque universal decorating colour in brown (called "Chestnut" by Botz). You can use it for underglaze and overglaze techniques, porcelain painting, majolica technique and relief technique. With a firing range of 1000 to 1250 °C, it suits firings from low temperature up to stoneware. Undiluted, it can also be applied with an airbrush.

The colour can be mixed with the other Unidekor colours from Botz. For pastel shades, lighten it with Unidekor 4009 White. According to Botz, the colour is exempt from hazard labelling: lead-free and free of hazardous substances in concentrations requiring labelling. It is made in Germany.

Application and firing

Before firing, Unidekor looks matt and less vivid. The full colour intensity only appears after firing. A test piece on your own clay body will show you beforehand how Palisander looks at your firing temperature.

• Underglaze: paint onto bisque-fired ceramics, coat thinly with clear glaze and fire at approx. 1050 °C
• Once dry, you can also coat the colour with clear glaze using a soft brush
• Stoneware: above 1220 °C, Unidekor becomes very intense
• Porcelain: do not apply too thinly and fire at 1200 °C or above, or coat with clear glaze and fire at approx. 1080 °C

Mixing and tinting

All 24 Unidekor colours can be mixed with one another, so you can create your own shades of brown. With 4009 White, Palisander gives light, pastel tones. Mix the amount for a project in one batch so that the shade stays consistent.
