Mayco Stoneware SW-108 Green Tea – glossy glaze with ash effect
Mayco Stoneware SW-108 Green Tea is a glossy high-fire glaze for stoneware. It gives a rustic, organic surface with a delicate, micro-fine ash effect: dark, earthy tones streaked with lighter ash shades. The tub contains 473 ml (16 fl oz).
The colour depends on the firing temperature. At 1230 °C Green Tea becomes a variable sage green that breaks over textures and can produce a glossy blue. At 1305 °C it changes to a variable mixture of pink, blue and green. According to Mayco, the glaze is dinnerware safe. It carries the CL (Cautionary Label) seal, so please follow the warnings.
Applying Green Tea
Stir the glaze well before use so that the colour particles are evenly distributed. Apply 2–3 coats with a brush or dip the piece. The glaze must not be sprayed. The thickness of the coat controls the effect: a thinner application gives fewer crystals, a thicker one more.
Tips for the result
If the glaze comes out of the kiln matt, fire the piece again. This creates more variation in the surface. Green Tea combines well with other Mayco glazes. Capri Blue and Oyster belong to the same glaze family and are worth a try.
