Botz Engobe 9050 Hellgrün – opaque liquid engobe for ceramics

Botz liquid glaze 9050 Engobe Hellgrün is a liquid, plain light green engobe for decorating ceramics. You apply it with a brush or slip trailer to leather-hard to dry, unfired or bisque-fired clay. The engobe is opaque, and unglazed the surface turns earthy matt. It is stable across a firing range of 900–1100 °C and is fired at approx. 1050 °C.

If you would like a stronger colour and a glossy surface, apply a thin glaze coat of Botz 9106 Transparent glänzend over the engobe. This also works in a single-firing process.

Applying the engobe

Stir the engobe well before use. Apply 2 to 3 coats with a brush or slip trailer to leather-hard, dry, unfired or bisque-fired clay, letting each coat dry a little before applying the next. Fire at approx. 1050 °C. If you do not glaze over the engobe, the surface stays matt and earthy.

Techniques and mixtures

The engobe suits several decorating techniques:

• Marbling and feathering: use slightly diluted on dampened, bisque-fired or leather-hard clay
• Sgraffito: scratch patterns through the engobe layer into the clay
• Mixed with Botz 9450: 30 % engobe and 70 % glaze give a coloured glaze with a silky-sheen surface and fine speckles; apply 3 coats
• Casting slip: can be used for small objects; fired at 1050 °C it vitrifies and becomes frost-proof

Other colours

Botz engobes are also available in other shades, for example white, grey, black, yellow and blue. This lets you create multi-coloured decorations on the same engobe base.
