Botz Engobe 9051 Dunkelgrün – opaque, matt engobe for ceramics

Botz engobe 9051 Dunkelgrün is a liquid, opaque engobe in a solid dark green for ceramics. Apply it with a brush or slip trailer to leather-hard to dry greenware or to bisque-fired clay. Unglazed, it fires to an earthy matt finish. It is stable across a firing range of 900 to 1100 °C and is fired at approx. 1050 °C.

Engobes add colour to clayware without forming a glossy layer like a glaze. That suits decoration, large areas and techniques where the colour should stay matt.

Application

Stir the engobe well before use. Apply two to three coats and let each layer dry slightly in between. Leather-hard to dry greenware or bisque-fired clay are suitable surfaces. Use a slip trailer for fine lines and dots and a brush for larger areas.

Techniques and combinations

The engobe is suitable for marbling, feathering and sgraffito. For marbling and feathering, thin it slightly and work on dampened, bisque-fired or leather-hard clay. For a stronger colour, apply a thin glaze coat of Botz 9106 Transparent glänzend over the engobe; single firing is also possible. If you mix 30 % engobe with 70 % Botz 9450 and apply the mixture in three coats, you get an inexpensive coloured glaze with a satin finish and fine speckles. For small objects, the engobe can also be used as casting slip: fired at 1050 °C, it vitrifies and is frost-resistant.
