Botz Engobe 9045 Hellblau – opaque liquid engobe for ceramics

Botz liquid glaze 9045 Engobe Hellblau is an opaque liquid engobe in light blue to turquoise. You apply it with a brush or slip trailer to greenware or bisque-fired ceramics. Unglazed, it fires to an earthy matt finish; with a clear glaze over the top, the colour becomes more intense.

The engobe is stable in a firing range of 900 to 1100 °C and is fired at approx. 1050 °C. This suits many clays and firing schedules in which the bisque and glaze firings fall within this range.

Applying the engobe

Stir the engobe well before use. Then apply 2 to 3 coats with a brush or slip trailer to leather-hard to dry greenware or bisque-fired clay body.

• Unglazed, the surface becomes earthy matt.
• For stronger colour intensity, apply a thin coat of Botz 9106 Transparent glänzend over the top.
• Firing: at approx. 1050 °C.

Techniques and uses

The engobe is suitable for marbling, feathering and sgraffito. For marbling and feathering, use it slightly diluted on a dampened, bisque-fired or leather-hard clay body.

• Mixed with Botz 9450: 30 % engobe and 70 % glaze give a coloured glaze with a satin surface and fine speckles, applied in 3 coats.
• For small objects, the engobe can also be used as casting slip; fired at 1050 °C, it vitrifies and is frost-proof.
