Botz Unidekor 4044 Dunkelrot – opaque decorating colour for ceramics and porcelain
Botz Unidekor 4044 Dunkelrot is a liquid, glossy and opaque universal decorating colour for ceramics. You can use it for underglaze, onglaze and inglaze techniques, as well as for porcelain painting, majolica technique and relief work. The firing range is 1000–1250 °C. This means you can use the colour at stoneware temperatures as well as lower firing temperatures without switching to a different product.
The Unidekor colours can be mixed with one another. Mixed with Botz 4009 Weiß they give pastel shades, so you can lighten the Dunkelrot with it. Undiluted, the colour is also suitable for airbrush work. The 30 ml are enough for smaller individual projects or for trying it out.
Working with Unidekor
The technique you choose determines how the colour is applied and covered. The Dunkelrot stays stable across the whole firing range of 1000–1250 °C.
- Underglaze technique: paint the decoration onto the clay body, leave to dry and cover with a thin coat of Botz 9106 glaze.
- Inglaze technique ("glaze+paint"): apply the colour to the unfired glaze. Matt Botz glazes work particularly well, for example series 9108, 9107, 9487–9491 and 9612.
- Airbrush: use the colour undiluted.
- Marbling: possible when diluted, on a dampened or glaze-fired (glazed and fired) clay body.
Tips for choosing
Unidekor is available in many shades, all of which can be mixed with each other. Dunkelrot is a strong, opaque red; for softer shades, mix in white. The result depends on the clay body, glaze and firing. A test piece shows you beforehand how the red looks with your set-up.
