BeaverCraft pocket leather strop – double-sided with two polishing compounds

The BeaverCraft LS9P2 pocket leather strop is a small, double-sided strop for honing and polishing blades, for example on kitchen knives, wood carving knives and leather cutting tools. The leather surface measures 200 × 35 mm and sits on an ash wood base coated with linseed oil. Two polishing compounds, white and green, come with the set, so the strop is ready to use straight away.

The small size fits in a tool bag or knife roll, so you can touch up blades on the go. A carrying loop and a booklet are included.

How to strop a blade

A strop aligns the fine cutting edge and removes the burr. Very blunt blades are best sharpened first on a whetstone and then stropped on the leather.

• Apply a thin layer of compound to the leather. Use only one type per side so the grits do not mix.
• Lay the blade flat so that the bevel rests on the leather, and keep the angle constant throughout the stroke.
• Draw the blade over the leather with light pressure, spine first. The edge trails behind, otherwise you will cut into the leather.
• At the end of the stroke, turn the blade over its spine and draw it back along the other side of the blade. Work both sides the same number of times.

White or green compound?

According to BeaverCraft, the white compound (28 µm, 600 grit) is for precise honing and removes nicks. The green compound (7 µm, 3000 grit) is finer and gives the edge a mirror-like shine. Start with white and then refine with green. The two leather sides also differ: the coarser side gives a polished finish, the smoother side is for refining.
