Geko PL250 lino printing press – hand press for lino and material printing up to A4

The Geko PL250 lino printing press is a hand-operated press for lino printing and material prints up to A4. According to the manufacturer, it is intended for schools, workshops, hobby artists and beginners, and it is made in Germany. A felt is included.

The side frames are made of dimensionally stable cast aluminium and the rollers of solid steel. The contact pressure is approx. 1,000 kg, giving an even, strong impression. The top roller is spring-mounted and compensates for unevenness in the material being printed. This helps when you print on fabric, cork, leaves or metal foil as well as lino blocks. The bottom roller is knurled and grips better as you turn the handle. The lifting system for the top roller makes it easier to feed in the printing plate.

Printing with the PL250

You set the gap and pressure of the rollers with the two large threaded spindles. The clearance height is approx. 45 mm. The roller gap must suit the plate, paper and felt.

• Ink up the lino block with printing ink using a roller, without applying it too thickly.
• Place the block on the printing bed, lay the paper on top and the felt over that.
• Turn the printing bed slowly and evenly through the rollers using the hand crank on the bottom roller.
• Carefully peel off the paper and leave it to dry.

Is the press right for your project?

With a roller width of 250 mm and a printing bed of 260 × 500 mm, you can print designs up to A4 as well as narrow, long formats. For larger blocks you will need a wider press. Besides lino printing, the PL250 is suitable, according to the manufacturer, for material prints, for example with fabric, cork, wallpaper, feathers, fur, metal, leaves or grass. At approx. 12 kg it sits firmly on the work table, yet can still be moved easily around the classroom or workshop.
