Faber-Castell Large Compass 174207 – Quick-Adjust Compass for Large Circles
The Faber-Castell large compass (art. no. 174207) is a quick-adjust compass for school and training. It draws circles up to a diameter of 340 mm. According to Faber-Castell, the legs are secured against accidental adjustment, so the radius you set stays put while you draw.
Geared guides, firmly seated centre wheel spindles and smooth-moving legs give clean lines. The non-slip needle and lead clamp holds the needle and lead securely. The compass is supplied in a tin with spare parts and leads, so you can start drawing straight away and have a reserve for later.
Drawing clean circles
First set the radius and check that the needle point and the lead are at the same height. Place the needle on a surface made of several layers of paper or card so that it does not tear through. Hold the compass by the head, tilt it slightly in the direction of drawing and draw the circle in one even turning movement. With large diameters the line comes out better if you do not stop part-way. The needle point is sharp, so it is best to keep the compass in its tin after use.
What the large compass is designed for
With a drawing range of up to Ø 340 mm, the compass suits school assignments and drawing exercises in training where large circles and arcs are needed. Spare leads and spare parts from the tin come in handy when a lead is used up.
