Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-100 Makin Me Blush – pink brush-on glaze
Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-100 Makin Me Blush is a pink ceramic glaze for damp clay, bisque-fired ware and stoneware. This thick, highly pigmented glaze is applied with a brush, either in single strokes or as an opaque area of colour. It fires glossy, so you do not need an additional clear glaze.
The glaze stays where you apply it during firing. This makes it suitable for fine lines, details and multicoloured designs. All colours in the range can be mixed with one another, and thinning the glaze gives softer gradients and transparent effects.
Application and coverage
You can apply SC-100 to damp clay and to bisque-fired ware. With one coat the pink is slightly translucent, so the surface underneath still shows through. For full coverage, apply 2–3 coats. Let each coat dry before applying the next so the strokes stay clean. If you want the colour to flow out more softly, thin it.
Firing: low fire and high fire
The normal firing range is cone 06 (approx. 998 °C, guide value per Orton chart) to cone 05 (approx. 1031 °C, guide value per Orton chart). Mayco gives the full range of use as cone 06 to cone 10 (approx. 1285 °C, guide value per Orton chart), oxidising or reducing. At cone 6 (approx. 1222 °C, guide value per Orton chart) the result changes: according to Mayco, SC-100 becomes semi-opaque and the colour darker. For high firing, therefore, test the glaze first on a test piece made from your own clay.
Dinnerware and certification seal
According to Mayco, the glaze is dinnerware safe. According to ACMI, the AP seal (Approved Product) means that the glaze is non-hazardous (no labelling required).
