The BeaverCraft C1Kid is a small whittling knife for children and beginners who want to carve their first wooden projects. A guard stops the hand from slipping onto the blade, and the tip is rounded. This makes cuts and scratches less likely. The blade is still sharp and functional: you can use it to carve simple beginner projects.

With an overall length of 155 mm and a blade length of 50 mm, the knife is compact and easy to control. The ash handle is 105 mm long and the blade is 15 mm wide. The cowhide sheath protects the blade when stored.

Whittling with the C1Kid

Start with soft wood such as lime, pine or willow, as beginners get clean cuts more quickly with it. Work sitting down, hold the wood in one hand and always guide the knife away from your body with the other. The hand holding the wood must never be in the cutting direction. Take several thin shavings rather than one thick cut: it is safer and the knife won't jam in the wood. Simple shapes such as a pointed stick, a small pendant or a simple figure are good for starting out.

Blade care

The blade is made of carbon steel and is not stainless. Wipe it dry after whittling and store the knife in a dry place. Moisture in the leather sheath can otherwise encourage rust. A thin film of oil protects the blade during longer storage.
