Mayco Underglaze UG-058 Harvest Gold – warm golden yellow for ceramics
Mayco Fundamentals Underglaze UG-058 Harvest Gold is an underglaze in a warm golden yellow, used to decorate ceramics before they are glazed. You brush it onto bisque or greenware for patterns, shading, details or solid areas. The pot contains 59 ml (2 oz).
Without a clear glaze, Harvest Gold fires matt according to Mayco. If you want a more intense colour, apply a clear glaze or a transparent matt glaze over it. The shine comes from the glaze, not from the underglaze.
Applying Harvest Gold
Brush the underglaze onto bisque or clay. One coat is enough for brushwork and fine lines; for solid coverage, apply up to three coats. Let each coat dry before applying the next. Opaque underglazes do not yet show their final colour before firing; the firing brings it out. A test tile on your own clay will show you in advance how Harvest Gold looks with your clay.
Firing and clear glaze
Mayco gives firing at cone 06 (approx. 998 °C, guide value per Orton chart), oxidising, as the reference. At cone 6 (approx. 1222 °C, guide value per Orton chart) the colour becomes more concentrated. For this firing, Mayco recommends the clear glaze SW-001 Stoneware Clear. At cone 10 in a reducing firing, Harvest Gold fades.
- Without a clear glaze, the surface stays matt
- For dinnerware: only under a transparent, dinnerware-safe clear glaze (Dinnerware Safe with Clear Glaze); without a clear glaze, Harvest Gold must not be considered dinnerware safe
