Mayco Fundamental Underglaze UG-090 Green Mist – soft green underglaze for ceramics
Mayco Fundamental Underglaze UG-090 Green Mist is an underglaze in a delicate, natural green. You paint it onto ceramics before the clear glaze is applied. The shade suits botanical motifs, background areas, delicate designs and subtle colour gradients. The bottle contains 59 ml.
Green Mist belongs to Mayco's Fundamentals series. Without clear glaze the colour fires matt; with a transparent clear glaze you get a glossy surface. For the series, Mayco states that the colour is concentrated at cone 6 and cone 10. Depending on the firing temperature, the shade can therefore turn out somewhat stronger than in lower firings. A test piece will show you beforehand how Green Mist looks with your firing and your glaze.
Applying Green Mist
Apply the underglaze with a brush or sponge in 2–3 coats, as Mayco recommends for the Fundamentals series. Let each coat dry before applying the next so the colour does not smudge. Use the brush for lines and motifs and the sponge to dab on areas and soft transitions. You can paint on wet clay, on greenware or on bisque ware fired to cone 04 (approx. 1063 °C, guide value per Orton chart). More coats give a stronger shade.
Firing and clear glaze
The firing range of the series runs from cone 06 (approx. 998 °C, guide value per Orton chart) to cone 10 (approx. 1285 °C, guide value per Orton chart). For cone 6 (approx. 1222 °C, guide value per Orton chart) and cone 10, Mayco names the clear glaze SW-001 Stoneware Clear for the series. For dinnerware you always need a transparent, dinnerware-safe clear glaze over the underglaze; without it the underglaze is not intended for dinnerware.
